I hope I explain this correctly, but would love to have Area Selection (which has been an FR for a while now for next level editing) but also "Apply FX" to area... So just like Soundforge and Protools Audiosuite, whereby you drag across as region to "shade" it (area selection) then process that audio with any effect in a drop down menu (maybe the installed plug ins?) This would then eliminate for me the need for an ext editor as you could then do this right on the timeline like PT. Soundforge has a few processes that all work in this way like Reverse, Fades, Pitch bends, as well as fx. I know you can apply FX to region but it doesnt seem the same, as I always do this more permanent, and for editing 2-track mastering in Reaper this would be a godsend.
[edit] sorry buckman i was recommending looking at reawave but you were asking qs on the thread so you know all about it... ;) did you get it going? just saying that the keymap that comes with reawave has actions for applying fx to area that work quite well, highlight the range, apply choose fx. also with tha latest sws extension jeffos has added apply fx 'chain' actions so regualarly used fx can be applied. i may add that feature sometime. combining the above with the glue with crossfade thats also in the keymap to finish off and you have basically what a wave editor would do.
Hi Ben Yes I have tried this and while its great what you've done I dont think its the same as actually using Area Selection like were used to in SF and PT I will have another look though at yours, although yours always wanted me to open a new tab which was a bit annoying? Im trying to combine Reaper and an editor all in one so we can edit on the timeline without leaving- think this will speed up workflow for alot of people?
see my edit above! cool - well imo annoying is a bit strong! haha. its instantly in a new tab and when you're done it instantly takes you back to the main project :) but thats no matter, the point is you don't have to open the new 'tab' at all (thats optional) to use the toolbar tools/macros themselves- they still do the same thing wherever. so just hit F and you can work in the one window if you like, or find the macros in the actions list to use as you wish. eg. i use the zoom toggle button quite alot in arrange view as it takes you from time selection to full project view and back. and you can adjust the macros to taste if they dont do exactly what you want. highlighting a time selection then hitting the fx button gives you apply fx to range/time selection. then the glue button applies it semi-destructively. and with jefoss's new action you will be able to hit one button and apply a pre chosen fx chain to an area and glue it all in one go, indistinguishable from what SF would do...
Hi Couldnt find "'S&M paste fx chain to item slot n' specifically? Did see alot of new S&M updates in the SWS though!! Wow Thing is, do these have there own menu list? it seems that the only way i discovered them is by the actions window - and to try them out would mean i would have to bind them each to a key and would need 20 keyboards!! ;o)
in the action search bar, just type "s&m slot" or "s&m fx" and all related actions will come up. or just type s&m and scroll through even. if you use the 'prompt for slot' action a dialog comes up and you just type the number of the fx chain (once you've set that up i guess it will be easy to remember the numbers) you can try any action out from the actions window by hitting 'run' remember! I also think he is working on an info window thing btw. its all pretty cool, just digging into myself

agreed about area selection as Airon describes, hope it comes soon. but - again.. you can "select an area and apply an fx" right now no problem Buckman... in one of 2 ways. choose the fx or apply a pre-chosen fx chain. no need for reawave stuff. hence the above blurb! don't make me post an individual macro to prove it!! :) oh ok - simple (any)fx to range version: Item: split items at time selection Item: show fx chain for selected item take to neaten things up after that (so to get rid of splits and the item fx) use this action that came with reawave (so should be in your actions list) to quickly glue: custom: extend item left&right to generate X-fade with adjacent items and GLUE --- the jeffos 'specific fx' version (one key): Item: split items at time selection sws/s&m load/paste fx chain to selected item, slot 1 ;(for example) custom: extend item left&right to generate X-fade with adjacent items and GLUE yummy.
indeed... see my previous ^^ - have edited it, should explain things. the two versions are there. the second will prompt you for an fx chain first go, then remember it from then on. they are pretty simple and for single track/item stuff, but these new actions can be dead handy, and whether they could be made to work across tracks/groups etc, uh i'll let someone else try that! not something i do much. i have to go sort these out on my main system now actually, doing it on the hoof on an old net pc has got me in the mood...
