I really want to switch to Reaper (but Reaper won't allow me)

For drum maps you can insert the JS IX/MIDI_KeyMap plugin. Edit the text file to your liking. As far as the takes system goes, I hear ya. Cubase 5 was very flexible. Cubase 6 has adopted a Reaper-like way of doing things, but with the transparent events, it makes it even harder to work with than Reaper IMO. With Reaper 4, you can enable a preference for takes to maintain their lanes, so no more odd sizing. It still splits the 'part' whenever a new recording begins or ends, but that's the tradeoff.

@torreznor Hey mate, ok check this out, I think this is what you need to do and to make sure they are "Checked" before anyting else. Now check these Screenshot I prepared for you and I think you should be set to go. Of course one thing I still find odd that Reaper Dev don't make it possible, is that once you record Multi Lane Take, Once you Select one Item and you are listening to it, you can NOT simply just HIT "DELETE" button in your keyboard to Erase it, when you do that, IT ERASE ALL the tracks in that Bulk Lane takes. Very very odd and this has been this way since and it would be much easier to simply hit Delete instead of having to go and look for it in a Menu Action. But true, you can simply just Go and Create an SWS Action and add it in of your Toolbar Actions :) or use Ctrl+Shift T :) Screen example of Multi Lane Takes with no mess Screen of things need to be checked before: Screen get use to go to these Actions to get workflow etc... Hope this helps you a little towards getting Clean record Multi Lane Takes. Good luck, Great weekend to All :)

RE: I really want to switch to Reaper (but Reaper won't allow me)
Hi there again! XD I have been checking the latest versions of Reaper. It looks like takes' management has been improved. About time... Any news about creating drum maps? I have tried to reorder some instruments in the virtual piano in the midi editor but I wasn't able. Maybe there's an option hidden somewhere or a plugin or... Or I'm just wishing away? I would gladly pay for that feature. Regards!

Thanks for the info, EvilDragon. What a shame. Is is so difficult to implement this feature? Is it at least planned for a future release? I'm not going to shift DAWs until I can confortably program my drums in Reaper, that's for sure.

Only Cockos knows what they have in plan, and this info isn't shared with the forumbase... You're free to check out the pre-release forum section once in a while when a new pre-release appears, to see what's new. But that's only one point version in front. :)

LoL. ED only wants the best for Reaper, so his relentless discovering of annoyances is only a way to make Reaper an easier experience for new users. I was so frustrated at first, I had someone else just tell me I am ready for you to record, come on over. But this is a problem from being too used to another way of working. I have an app In Scope that is a multi track recorder and unitl the last couple of years it's 32 bit Integer sound was superior to my ears, hence it's use, but I always would reach over and hit the space bar to stop, which sadly wasn't an option.....arrggghhh. I learned so much from this thread already I bookmarked it. There are just so many workarounds, that remembering them all is a major chore...
