1994 850 cooling system leaks

MessageAuthor

the only thing that springs to mind is the head gasket, it doesnt have to mix with the oil all the time, one of our works cars was the same and it was the gasket, specially if there are no other leaks its got to be entering the pots, is there white smoke/condensation coming from the exhausts. If you have a grey coolant filler cap they can cause problems. Change it for a new green one. Otherwise it could be a faulty radiator, hoses or head gasket. One way to check if the headgasket is faulty is to start the car cold with the coolant filler cap removed and see if you can see bubbles of air in the coolant resevoir. Simon

I believe dealers can do a test to measure exhaust gases in coolant so could do this as a last resort if the head is leaking. Most likely either the filler cap (when mine failed you could hear a slight hissing when fully warmed up) or a leak somewhere on the pipework - there should be some scale/mank wherever it is leaking from.

get the dealer to do a presuure test on the system, actually any good garage can do this for you. this will tell you where its leaking from rather than guessing.
