Oil Change Interval- V70 D5

I've just bought a Haynes manual for my '02 V70. The first thing I have noticed is that it recommends an oil change every 6000 or six months. My service booklet (main dealer all fully stamped) makes no mention of this so far as I can see, and specifies a service interval of 10000 or 12 months. Which is right? Any advice greatly appreciated. PJC

Haynes make a suggestment, as the more often the oil is changed in theory the longer the engine will last. Your right with the Volvo service internals. You can just make up your own mind.

Personally, I think that the oil change interval also depends on the sort of use the car has. If you do 6000 miles to the shops and back each year, then I'd be changing the oil at very least annually, and possibly more often, as you'll get all sorts of nasty products of combustion condensing in the oil. If, like me, you're doing 24K to 30K a year, and only one cold start a day, then I stick to the 12,000 mile oil change intervals

Hi Peter in my 163bhp D5 i tend to change oil at 5 or 6k dependant on time,i also do similar milage to yourself..am changing oil type shortly as soon as i can hold of it to Castrol SLK Longtec which i may return to 12000 miles intervals..
